About: Medieval Art

Medieval Art Medieval Art is the on-going website version from an initial facebook page maintained by Begoña Cayuela, Roser Piñol and Pere-Joan Nogueroles.

The purpose of Medieval Art is to collect and disseminate web resources and news such as conferences, exhibitions, publications, etc. devoted to medieval culture in general and medieval art in particular.

Projects: under construction

Photos of Medieval Monuments

In order to promote the knowledge of Medieval art we collect photos of monuments and works of art. A searchable map will be created with all the photographs in order to show the data in a geographical display.

Resources

Furthermore, this website will provide resources and bibliographical mentions, the Library relevant to Medieval Art subjects displayed in a way easy to permit searches, queries and views.

Medieval Heritage at Risk

The final step of this web project aims to build a collaborative database of Medieval Heritage at Risk, identifiying those medieval artifacts, monuments, buildings and sites in danger of being destroyed, injured or allowed to fall into decay or oblivion. The data stored in a database feed a dynamic map to plot and visualise those medieval sites at risk of preservation.

Antechoir of St. George of Reichenau (Germany). Dated in 1308. "The moralizing depiction castigates the talkativeness of women, whose 'babbling is just incredible' (Mt. 12:36-37). A devil writes the corresponding six-liner on a cowhide in majuscule letters in the language of the early 14th century: ICH WIL HIE SHRIB/VN VON DISEN/ TVMBEN WIBVN / WAS HIE WIRT / PLAPLA GVSPR/OCHVN VPPIGGES/ IN DER WOCHVN/ DAS WIRT ALL/ VS WOL GVRAHT/ SO ES W/IRT FVR DEN/ RIHTVR BRATH (I want to write here About these silly women What is spoke bla bla here A great deal during the week It's probably all right righteous If it's brought before the judge)".
